Renowned diplomat and ex-United Nations Under Secretary-General, Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, may emerge the next Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.
WESTERN POST sources said the successful international diplomat and academic looks good to clinch the top seat to succeed Mallam Abba Kyari who died recently from complications arising from coronavirus pandemic.
President Buhari was said to be looking for an apolitical person like Kyari to take over the job, and he found all that in Prof. Gambari.
Gambari from Kwara State was born on November 24, 1944, in Ilorin Kwara State.
He was Nigeria’s Minister of External Affairs between 1984 and 1985.
Former Commonwealth’s Secretary–General, Patricia Scotland, hd during his time appointed Ibrahim Gambari as her Special Adviser on Political Affairs.
Gambari was recently appointed by the Secretary-General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur effective from 1 January 2010.
He is also currently the Special Adviser on the International Compact with Iraq and Other Issues for the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
